Member Organizations of Rwanda NGOs Forum on HIV/AIDS and Health Promotion working in the Fight against HIV/AIDS, Health Promotion and Human Rights supported with food commodities to the Survivors of the 1994 Genocide perpetrated against the Tutsi in Rwanda.

The food support was delivered to 136 households for Survivors of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda who are living in Kiberinka Village, Rugarama Cell, Nyamirambo Sector in Nyarugenge on April 21, 2020.

The support comes in line with helping Rwandans to respect the guidelines of the ongoing lockdown period by the Government of Rwanda in a bid to respect prevention measures against COVID-19.

The support provided consisted of various food commodities that included 1,360 Kg of processed maize flour ‘Kawunga’, 950 Kg of rice, 680 Kg of beans, 137 Kg of sugar, 136 litres of cooking oil, 136 Kg of salt and 23 boxes that contained 272 bars of soaps for hygiene and sanitation.

The total value of this support is worth Frw 3.3 Million and will help them to stay at home and reduce unnecessary movements during the period of the ongoing lockdown till 30th April 2020.

Mrs. RWEMARIKA Felicite, the Chairperson of Rwanda NGOs Forum on HIV/AIDS and Health Promotion reiterated that “the support will help the Survivors of the 1994 Genocide against Tutsi in Rwanda to abide with the Government’s measures of staying at home as one of the effective prevention measures to fight against COVID-19 pandemic where our Country and the World are being hit by Coronavirus.”

“This support is also in line with comforting and consoling the Survivors of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda as we remember for the 26th time.” She said.

Dr. RYARASA Joseph, the Chairperson of Rwanda Civil Society Platform appreciated the efforts and solidarity by member Organizations of Rwanda NGOs Forum on HIV/AIDS and Health Promotion in supporting the Government’s initiative of providing food supply to Vulnerable Communities for them to be able to respect prevention measures of fighting against COVID-19 that were put in place.

He comforted and consoled families of Survivors of the 1994 Genocide against Tutsi in Rwanda.

The support was handed over to community by the Chairperson of Rwanda NGOs Forum together with the Chairperson of Rwanda Civil Society Platform as well as represented member organizations including Bamporeze, IMRO, CCN, AHR and Local Authority representatives and the President of IBUKA of Nyamirambo Sector.
